Moonridge Animal Park is pleased to present Docent led Tours of the zoo. These tours are available to schools and organizations and are informational and fun for adults and children alike. This is an excellent opportunity to have one on one time with the folks that know the stories of how the animals came to be under our care, what they like to eat, where they live and play and what their purpose is in the wild.
Tours must be scheduled at least two weeks ahead of time and can be done so by completing a Zoo Tour Application (Click Here), paying the fee and obtaining a certificate of insurance naming the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District and the County of San Bernardino as additional insured. Tours are available Monday through Friday during business hours. (10:00 am to 5:00 pm) To schedule your tour, please call The Park District office at 909-866-9700.
Tours are limited to an absolute maximum of 80 people and the fee for the tours is:
Up to 25 people $100.00. Each additional person is $4.00 each.To maximize the enjoyment of your Animal Park Tour, the following information is provided:
- Please allow adequate travel time to Big Bear. It takes at least 1½ hours to travel to the Zoo from the base of the mountain by bus, so please add this to your travel time from the San Bernardino or Victorville areas. (Groups arriving more than 30 minutes late cannot be guaranteed a docent-led tour.)
- Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a jacket. The Zoo is located on 2½ acres of unpaved and slightly hilly land. Although it may be hot from where you are, the Zoo can be windy and cold.
- A ratio of 1 adult per 10 children for grades 3-12 and 1 adult per 6 children for preschool through 2nd grade is recommended. Every adult in the group is responsible for the discipline and management of their small group. Docents and/or staff are NOT responsible for such discipline and management. The Zoo staff and docents shall have authority to exclude any child or group that is disruptive and/or uncooperative from the tour. The tour groups shall be responsible to supervise any child or group so excluded.
- We ask that each child wear a name tag with their first name only, printed in such a matter that it can be easily read from a distance. It will assist the tour guides in keeping track of their group if each small group have their own color name tags.
- Your group is visiting the homes of our animals that can become easily distressed. Please walk and use quiet voices at all times. We ask that you discuss appropriate behavior with your group before your trip to the Zoo.
- If your tour is before lunch, we suggest that each child has a snack before the tour begins. Hungry children get wiggly and inattentive quickly. No eating is allowed at the zoo without prior arrangements to use our picnic area. We also might suggest a visit to Meadow Park on the lake for a lunch or snack before your tour. Contact the Park District office at (909) 866-9700 for information on the park.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
